Kate Hunter Quilting Biography -
I’ve sewn since childhood. My first quilt was started for the bicentennial in 1976; however, I began actively quilting in 1997. As soon as I graduated from college, I began traveling for business frequently and traveling for pleasure whenever possible. For business, I spent three months in Germany and England, numerous one to two week trips to European locations, and many trips to U.S. locations, and miscellaneous other destinations. Vacations always involve travel; trips to Germany to see family, exploring historic locations in England, an Alaska cruise in 2005, 3 weeks wandering Tuscany alone in 2011, and U.S. road trips. It was a natural outgrowth to combine traveling with quilting. My specialties are quilts inspired by travel, wall hangings that capture travel memories, and techniques that can be used to capture the travel themes. The wall hangings are an opportunity to show off souvenirs gathered while traveling and also provide a small project that is perfect for trying out new techniques. My degree in Mechanical Engineering provides a design background and a disciplined approach to pattern development. After many years of writing airplane repair instructions and teaching other engineers, I have changed my focus to designing quilts and teaching quilters.
I have taught in Texas, Colorado, Washington, and Oregon, and am excited about traveling to new regions.
